An introduction to critiquing photographs (a video)

This podcast introduces a clearly delineated set of criteria to use in critiquing and analyzing photographs, regardless of the type of photograph.

Learning how to critique photographs is the second best way to become a better photographer. The best way is to make photographs and get critical feedback on those same photographs. The audio for this podcast was recorded during a workshop that I was giving at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. The sixty minute exercise has been edited down to just the highlights in a fifteen minute podcast.

  1. Very interesting podcast David. When I remind myself of the basic elements of a good photograph I often feel renewed and inspired the next time I go shoot. Interesting choices for reference examples as well, Sebastiao Salgado especially!
