Classes

In these uncertain times, photography offers us unique opportunities for a number of reasons. Photography is something we often practice on our own (thus social distancing).  Photography helps us build and hold new memories.  Photography is a process that gets our creativity going and it requires us to live in the moment (a good thing right now).

Speaking of photography, mentoring photographers is what I do best. Building on decades of experience as a working publication photographer and a workshop teacher, I have mentored hundreds of accomplished and successful photographers, helping them find their place in the world of photography.

Students put it best saying:

“I really enjoyed your class. You did an excellent job of making a huge subject accessible and left me feeling inspired.” – Shlomit B.

Thank you for a great little workshop that got me doing more video which I had been hesitant about doing myself… Your workshop HAS helped to take the intimidation out of video! 🙂  – Michele C.”

Student Comments

“I just want to thank you for a great workshop, especially for your personal attention to everyone in the class and for being so generous with your time, knowledge and experience. Best regards” Wayne M. / California

“My wife and I took your Light Studies class in Santa Fe, and it’s had a lasting impression on both of us. You’ve definitely influenced how we teach our photography classes. (I teach photography and design at the Regional High School, and my wife teaches photography to teenagers after school as the director of her 501(c)(3) organization.) Check out some of our third-semester student galleries – you’ll see some of your influences trickling through here and there! Thanks again for last summer’s inspiration! Take care” Chris B. / Massachusetts

“As I mentioned to you at the end of the course, your course was one of the best I have ever taken. I learned more about my camera and taking photos in your course than ever before. You are extremely knowledgeable and you communicate that knowledge well. During the shoots you were very helpful in making problems understandable. The critiques were a great teaching tool. I have been able to edit all of my photos for the past two years quickly and efficiently.” Fred L. / Illinois

“David Wells is an excellent teacher. Demanding and supporting, I value his critique and his encouragement. He builds community with his students so we are working as a team on becoming better photographers. I seek him out as a teacher (three workshops thus far) because of how David has helped me in seeing, evaluating what is important about light and context, and improving technique, all to produce enhanced images.” Lowell F. / Connecticut

“I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I enjoyed and learned at your workshop. I constantly hear your voice when I see something I’d like to photograph or even when looking at other people’s work. I am in awe of your breadth and depth of knowledge in so many areas and subjects. I loved the workshop. You are incredibly knowledgeable about a wide variety of photographic techniques, topics, issues and technology. There was an enormous amount of information you were able to convey to us in an interesting and informative way. Thanks again so much David.” Jena F. / Georgia
